Cataracts

A cataract is one of the leading causes of vision loss worldwide. It is the clouding of the clear lens inside the eye which leads to a decrease in vision. Proteins in the lens begin to clump. These clumps cause the lens to discolor and darken. It’s almost like you’re looking through the dusty glass.

Usually, light enters the eye through the cornea, passes through the lens and to the retina that then communicates the image we are seeing to the brain. A cataract blocks the light from getting to the retina.

Causes vary from the aging process and medical conditions passed by genes and trauma. Cataracts can affect one or both eyes. They develop very slowly.
